For over 35 years, HowellSlabJacking has helped property owners across Central Indiana & Central Illinois lift settled concrete without the cost and mess of replacement. Since 1989, our family has specialized in Traditional SlabJacking for driveways, garage floors, sidewalks, patios, steps, commercial floors, and more.
Over the years, we have answered thousands of questions from homeowners, business owners, and property managers about settled concrete, SlabJacking, cracks, drainage, concrete replacement, warranties, scheduling, and more. Below are some of the most common questions we hear.
Unlike many newer companies that recently added concrete lifting services, SlabJacking has been our family trade for decades. We believe experience matters. Every slab is different, and understanding how concrete moves, settles, drains, and lifts properly comes from years of real-world field experience.
Whether your concrete is sinking near the home, creating a trip hazard, pulling away from steps, or causing drainage problems, we hope the information below helps you better understand the problem and the options available to fix it.
“THE OLDEST, MOST EXPERIENCED SLABJACKER IN OUR AREA.”
FAMILY TRADE SINCE 1989.
Concrete lifting (also called concrete leveling, slabjacking, or mudjacking) is a way to fix sinking or uneven concrete without replacing it. We drill small holes in the slab and pump a grout mixture underneath. This fills empty space (void filling), lifts the concrete, and brings it back to a level position.
SlabJacking uses a cement-based material that is pumped under pressure beneath the slab. This material fills gaps, strengthens the soil, and slowly lifts the concrete. It also helps with concrete stabilization so the slab has better support moving forward.
SlabJacking uses a grout mix, while polyjacking uses polyurethane foam. Both are forms of concrete raising, but mudjacking is a proven method that has been used for decades. It provides strong support, works well for many residential projects, and is a reliable option for long-term results.
In many cases, yes. Concrete lifting is faster, more affordable, and less disruptive than replacement. Instead of tearing out your driveway, sidewalk, or patio, we lift and fix the existing slab.
Every project is different. The cost depends on the size of the area, how much the concrete has settled, and how much material is needed. In most cases, concrete leveling costs much less than full replacement.
Yes. SlabJacking is one of the most affordable ways to fix sinking concrete. You keep your existing slab, avoid demolition, and still get a solid, level surface.
We provide estimates based on your project details. The best way to get started is by submitting your information so we can review your concrete repair needs and respond with the next steps.
If the slab is still in decent shape, lifting is usually the best option. We can fix uneven concrete, improve safety, and extend the life of your concrete without the high cost of replacement.
Most jobs are completed in just a few hours. Once the process is done, your concrete is typically ready to use the same day.
No major mess. We drill small holes, complete the lifting, and patch them. Compared to tearing out concrete, the process is clean and simple.
We drill access holes, pump material under the slab, lift it to the correct level, and then patch the holes. The goal is to restore your concrete quickly and safely.
In most cases, no. As long as we have access to the area and clear instructions, we can complete the job and follow up with you after.
We lift many types of residential and light commercial concrete, including driveways, sidewalks, walkways, patios, porches, garage floors, concrete floors, pool decks, steps, and other slabs around your property.
Yes. If your concrete is uneven, sinking, or creating trip hazards, we can lift and level it. This helps improve safety and appearance at the same time.
Yes. Void filling is a big part of the process. We fill the empty space under the slab and help stabilize the soil so the concrete has better long-term support.
Concrete can often still be lifted even if it has cracks. However, lifting will not remove the cracks—it will raise and stabilize the slab. Severely damaged concrete may need replacement.
If your concrete is still structurally sound, lifting is usually the better option. It’s faster, more affordable, and avoids the mess of demolition.
If the concrete is badly broken, falling apart, or has major structural damage, replacement may be the better choice. We’ll be honest and let you know what’s best.
Yes. Concrete lifting addresses the issue below the slab by filling voids and improving support. This helps prevent further sinking.
No. Lifting improves the level and function, but existing stains, cracks, or dips may still be visible. The goal is to fix the problem, not replace the slab.
We’ve been a trusted slabjacking contractor since 1989. This is not a side service—it’s what we do every day. Our experience helps us find the best way to fix your concrete.
Yes. SlabJacking is our focus. It’s a proven method for concrete lifting, leveling, and stabilization that has worked for decades.
Both methods can work, but SlabJacking has a long track record and uses a strong, cement-based material. It provides solid support and is a trusted choice for many residential and commercial projects.
We keep things simple. We show up, explain the problem, and give honest recommendations. No pressure—just straightforward help to fix your concrete the right way.
Every job is different. The amount of settlement, drainage conditions, erosion, voids under the slab, access to the work area, and surrounding concrete all play a role in determining the best repair approach.
