Concrete Leveling in Central Illinois & Indiana

Uneven Concrete Slab Causing Problems?

If your concrete slab has started sinking, cracking, separating, or creating uneven surfaces, the problem usually does not improve on its own. Whether it is a detached building slab, shed slab, barn slab, workshop floor, or another concrete surface around your property, settlement often becomes worse over time if left alone.

At HowellSlabJacking, we have been helping property owners Lift Settled Concrete since 1989. We have Specialized in SlabJacking for over 35 years, helping homeowners and property owners across Indianapolis and Central Indiana restore settled concrete slabs without the cost and mess of replacement.

Many people use the term “concrete leveling,” but most of the time concrete does not need to be perfectly level. The goal is usually restoring the slab back toward its original grade while maintaining proper support and helping prevent future problems.

Why Concrete Slabs Sink

Concrete slabs can settle for many reasons. Most of the time the slab itself is not the problem. The issue is usually what is happening underneath the concrete.

Common causes include:

  • Soil settling beneath the slab
  • Poor compaction during construction
  • Water erosion beneath the concrete
  • Rodent activity creating voids
  • Freeze and thaw cycles
  • New construction settlement
  • Drainage issues around the property

When support beneath the slab changes, the concrete eventually starts to move and settle.

If ignored, the problem often becomes worse over time.

Signs Your Concrete Slab May Need SlabJacking

You may notice:

  • Uneven concrete surfaces
  • Cracks becoming larger
  • One side of the slab sitting lower
  • Gaps beneath the slab
  • Water collecting around the concrete
  • Trip hazards
  • Doors not closing properly in detached structures
  • Separation between concrete sections

Smaller problems are usually easier and less expensive to address before settlement becomes more severe.

If your concrete slab is settling, there is a good chance other concrete around your property may also be moving. We also help property owners lift garage floorsdrivewayswalkways & sidewalksstepspatios, and pool decks. Whether you are dealing with trip hazards, settlement, or uneven surfaces, our Traditional SlabJacking process helps restore settled concrete without replacement.

Our Fix: Traditional Concrete Slab SlabJacking

Traditional SlabJacking has been a tried and proven method for lifting settled concrete for decades.

At HowellSlabJacking, experience matters. The material itself is only one part of the process. Knowing where to place the holes and how much material should be pumped beneath the slab comes from decades of real-world experience.

    Step 1: Inspect & Drill

We inspect the slab and identify where support beneath the concrete has been lost. Small access holes are drilled in strategic locations.

Step 2: Pump Material Beneath The Slab

Material is pumped beneath the slab under pressure to fill voids and gradually restore support.

Step 3: Lift, Support & Finish

The slab is carefully lifted toward its proper position while supporting surrounding areas and matching adjacent concrete sections as closely as possible.

Most residential jobs can often be completed in less than a day.

    Concrete Slab SlabJacking FAQs

Yes. Concrete naturally cracks over time. As the old saying goes, concrete is guaranteed to do two things: get hard and crack. In many situations, cracked slabs can still be lifted successfully. The goal is usually restoring the slab toward its original position and reducing separation between cracks and joints. Depending on the situation, cracks can sometimes also be addressed afterward.

Every slab is different, so pricing depends on several factors including location, access, voids beneath the slab, and the amount of settlement involved. Most residential SlabJacking jobs typically run between $600–$1,900, although larger projects can cost more depending on size and conditions.

Not necessarily. We have lifted tens of thousands of slabs over the past 35+ years that someone else originally poured. Traditional SlabJacking often allows property owners to avoid demolition, keep existing concrete, and save money. You can also learn more about Traditional SlabJacking vs Poly Foam Lifting.

Nothing is permanent. If the support under the slab continues sinking because of erosion or ongoing settlement, movement can happen again. However, when drainage and erosion issues are controlled, many slabs remain stable for many years.

Yes. Interior slabs and floors can often be lifted depending on the situation. Interior surfaces sometimes require more precise lifting because levelness can be important inside structures. You can also learn more about our Concrete Floors services.

Scheduling depends on current workload, weather, job size, and location. Sometimes projects can be completed fairly quickly while other times scheduling may take longer. We coordinate multiple projects throughout Central Indiana and Central Illinois and work everyone in as quickly as possible.

Voids can develop for several reasons including water erosion, poor soil compaction, animal activity, or natural settlement over time. When support beneath the slab disappears, the concrete no longer has consistent support and can begin sinking.
